The 8 principles for Taijiboxing and a healthy lifestyle

Taijiboxing as both a Art form and a philosophy for life has 8 basic principles which when properly integrated into your personality gives a perfect treasure chest of wisdom and knowledge to deal with the ever turbulent ride that we call life.

 Just like in nature the ancient Taoist observed that running water is never stagnant or putrid.  Likewise we should observe the Tao and be as free flowing as a stream constantly adjusting to the underlying  and surrounding terrain.

 The first principle is: PATIENCE : The state or quality of being patient; the power of suffering with fortitude; uncomplaining endurance of evils or wrongs, as toil, pain, poverty, insult, oppression, calamity, etc.

    But like in the practice of taijiquan as both art form and a martial discipline you must endeavor to practice regardless of the outcome. That is to say that, the dedication and the discipline is the reward in it self  and as it was said ” He  who laughs last, laughs longest”, patience is a virtue that is rarely ascertained.

Patience is a virtue that most often never attained!!

The second principle is:   Practice: Translating an idea into action; “A hard theory to put into practice”.  Skill or dexterity acquired by use; expertness:

Actual performance  is the application of knowledge  as opposed to theory.

 Systematic exercise for instruction or discipline;.[Websters   definition].

This incorporates a individuals application of knowledge , willpower and conviction to overcome a obstacle through consistent  patience.

The Third is:Perseverance The steady persistence in a course of action, a purpose, a state, etc., especially in spite of difficulties,   obstacles, or discouragement. this is the pinnacle to all personal enlightenment applying this in daily life make the world a brighter place. this in my opinion combination with hope is the light of the world.  it is said that the great sage s believed that  “In the midst of adversity all is clarity”.

 The Fourth is: Persistence Continued progress in a course of action without regard to difficulty, past failures, or opposition.

These quote outline one of the few quality that can not be copied you must develop this trait, and make it part of who you are.

This is number Five:   Practicality.This is exhibited in, or obtained through practice or action: Practical knowledge; usable, workable or useful and sensible: Practical proposals  relating to, or governed by, and acquired through practice and action, rather than just theory. Speculation and ideals can be  gained through the practical experience of .. life.

This refers to the implementation of knowledge ,experience and wisdom combined with adaption and innovation to make a idea concept technique or theory usable.

In the field of martial arts as within our daily life”s , many thinks may sound practical but are not necessarily feasible.      Many techniques form some of the traditional martial arts and may have seemed practical  some 20 yrs ago.

But not in  today’s environment application of that hidden ancient knowledge is now widely common knowledge.

Due largely to technology, and the world wide web  making information available form all over the world with the    internet.

Therefore; It  is much harder now a day for a female to say” knee a male attacker in the groin” than it might  have been 20 yrs ago, when the technique was not so commonly known or  employed.

This is number 6    Pliability. The quality or state of being pliable;

Flexibility, ie  supple enough to bend freely or repeatedly without breaking  : yielding readily to others :

This is what is meant by having a” flexible mind and body and a calm free flowing spirit”.

It is not rigid and can easily adapt conform and expand as necessary to maintain its structure.

A truly form less form.

This is number 7   Progressive. Moving forward; advancing.  Proceeding in steps; continuing steadily by increments: progressive change. Promoting or favoring progress toward . Education is a progressive discovery of our own ignorance.

Moving forward; proceeding onward; advancing; evincing progress; increasing; as, progressive motion or course; — opposed to retrograde.  Success is the progressive realization of a worthy goal or ideal.

Many people  have  the idea that progress always means something brand new, and that new is always better.

I think there is very little knew under the sun, and it is only a matter of man’s arrogance to think we have some thing “Brand knew”.

Most theories are based on something they already have some knowledge off, and may have even forgotten. “Wisdom”  is a innate gift that most of us never actualize because society tells us it is for a chosen few, experts genius, scientist, billionaires. but we all have the  capability to  access what used to be know as “common sense” but I think few of us may  remember how

Maybe we have become to reliant on the artificial information technologies as opposed to our own intuition.

But we are just people, and all  share  the same human frailties, and unique  qualities.

As they used to say in the olden days, “Necessity is the mother of invention”.

The difference only real difference between a Leader and a Follower  is luck,and opportunity??.

No matter what the “ Tabloids may try to say about self made Millionaires”

This is number 8     Potential. 

that has power; potent

that can, but has not yet, come into being; possible; latent; unrealized; undeveloped

Gram. expressing possibility, capability, power,capable of development into actuality

The idea of potential is the greatest gift and secret know to mankind. since the origin of the species and the organization of the planet the potential or”Dunamus”, inherent power of the human being  may well be limitless!!

The problem is that we are limited by our own capabilities, we have a huge reservoir  for potential but due to today’s lifestyle and attitudes are somehow disconnected form the keys.

The door to this freedom may lie in the wisdom of the ages, the meditative practices of Buddhism, and the Taoist breathing and balance approach to food and respecting the planet.

This suddenly is being  “Noticed” by our great directors of the planet the so called “Scientific communities” .

The idea of a more synergistic approach to life on this planet, and the introduction to a concept of a sustainable planet .This stark reality is being  noticed by  Scientist and global suffering, through  mass starvation(Africa) and mass migration of people.

We are also  noticing devolution and the loss of too many species too quickly in quantum proportions.

This might suggest the Human  population is too large for what the planet can sustain  and we are running quickly running out of sustenance(Food and  living space).   Our habitat is quickly being eroded, and if we do not wake up and act now,Return to the natural Tao,we will cease to exist.

 Finally we may begin to understand our human heritage as  merely care takers  of the planet.

With time let us hope this message  may finally be hitting home…. This idea of ” Harmony” and that of more “care takers” than simply” taker “  I hope will lead people back to a more balanced approach to living and things like Taiji and Yoga will be a normal part of life.

In the midst of stillness all is clarity, natures gift of meditation!!

Just like taking care of yourself, the planet, and of course paying bills and taxes.

I hope by applying some of these principles not only to your Taiji Practice but to your daily life will bring peace. Harmony, Vitality and freedom of spirit in a sometime roller coaster world will help you  on  your daily journeys.
